About Us

History of Kuoni Global Travel Services

Our origins date back to 1906, the year that Alfred Kuoni established a travel agency at Sonnenquai 6 (today Bellevue Place in Zurich, Switzerland) as an extension of the haulage company he owned together with his brothers. Among the first package tours was a 1 CHF train journey to the Uetliberg, a lookout point just above Zurich.

In 1907 the travel agency first offered guided tours abroad to Egypt and quickly expanded to allow people to discover unknown countries and incredible destinations. Even in the early days, the focus was on organising high quality group tours with personalised customer care. Already in 1963, the Tokyo branch of Kuoni was opened specifically for the Groups business. Over the years, Kuoni has gained a strong reputation as a reliable and respected tour operator within the FIT and Groups market.

The world has changed many times over since 1906, and the diversity of the businesses Kuoni has been involved in has adapted and grown. The retail branches were sold to the REWE Group in 2015, alongside a long-term license to use the Kuoni name. In 2017, Kuoni Global Travel Services was acquired by the Tokyo-based industry leader JTB Corp.

Kuoni Global Travel Services is proud to bear the Kuoni name and continue the legacy of our founder Alfred Kuoni.
